Marcello Miali was born 42 years ago in Puglia, the region of Italy also called as “the heel of the boot”, from a family of winemakers.

After high school he moved to Rome to study Economics to the University of Rome “La Sapienza” but after the first year his father passed away, pushing him back to his hometown to help his two older brothers (Michele and Francesco Miali) to run the family winery while he was trying to keep up with the College at the same time.

After graduation, he moved back to Rome and then to Milan, looking for work experiences in different business fields (marketing, Information technology, stock trading) but his heritage was calling him and when he won a scholarship to attend a Master in oenology and Marketing, he figured out that the path was marked.

His love for travels and wine brought him to the USA in 2011. He quickly realized that a good number of amazing Italian wineries are too small to face the competitive USA market. The following year he put together a small group of family owned wineries from different regions of Italy with the goal of helping each other to promote their wines. That’s how Wineries of Italy Consortium (WINE ICons) started.

Thanks to the wineries that first joined the project, Wine Icons start to grow, involving now 26 small wine producers and distributors in 7 different states of the USA.
